It takes a lot of patience to wait for the film adaptation for Neil Gaiman's comic series 'Sandman.' After all, there have been plans to make a live-action feature on Morpheus and the other Endless since the early '90s!
However, it was announced that an official 'Sandman' will be directed by Joseph Gordon-Levitt. That was back in 2013, so what is taking so long? Producer David Goyer recently sat down with Collider to provide some updates on the film.
"We're just about to do a new draft," Goyer admitted before explaining how the comic book adaptations will work for the studios.
"All of the Vertigo properties ported over to New Line a few months ago," he said. "There was a decision from the higher-ups that New Line would focus on the Vertigo properties and Warner Bros would focus on the DC properties."
David Goyer also confirmed that 'Sandman' will feature the work of a new writer, but didn't reveal who it was.
"We're just starting a re-write with a really fantastic writer that fans of your site will enjoy that's coming aboard, but I can't quite announce it yet," he said.
The 'Davinci's Demons' producer also shared the difference between Vertigo and DC, and how it worked well for making sure the 'Sandman' film will be easier to release.
"I think that the Vertigo properties are a bit more quirky and off-center than kind of the mainstream superhero stuff at Warner's," Goyer said. "But I understand the decision because we're not having to fight for release dates with the Vertigo stuff like we would have been having to do over at Warner Bros."
But when exactly will we see the Joseph Gordon Levitt film? David Goyer didn't have an answer, but he did reveal when they could start working on the movie.
"I feel confident that film will go into production hopefully next year," he said.
