Windows 10 users will start to feel the real integration between their devices very soon. Microsoft announced that Cortana will now be able to send texts from a Windows 10 PC. The catch is that the mobile device synced with the desktop must be running on Windows 10 mobile preview build 10572. We might be able to see a Cortana for Android and iOS version that can send texts but that is completely up to Microsoft, The Verge reported.
Actual SMS are really sent from the phone but integration between devices allows users to utilize Cortana on desktop to type or speak the "text." Cloud syncing contacts makes this possible and other features like seeing missed calls can now be viewed on desktop. Microsoft has allowed for customization options so that multiple Windows 10 devices will not get the same notifications on every device.
The latest Windows 10 Mobile build will also integrate Skype more thoroughly with messaging, phone, and Skype video apps. New features like animated GIFs can now be sent on the Messaging app. It also has a very useful search function for both Messaging and Phone apps, Techno Buffalo noted.
Additional improvements to Cortana, Photo app, and storage settings of offline maps have also been made. The complete list can be viewed through the Windows Blog. Insiders were given the new mobile build to test out the improvements. As usual, the mobile device must first be downgraded to Windows 8.1 first before the updates can be made.
PC World reported if users would rather wait for the final build, Gabe Aul, Vice President for Windows Devices Engineering Team says that is completely understandable and "it won't be too long." Cortana's new abilities are sure to be on the radar of Apple as Mac does not have this capability, according to Macworld editors.
