Microsoft is among the companies which recently pursued technological advancement by developing the augmented reality headset called HoloLens. Google also made the same move by creating the Google Glass Enterprise edition.
Asus is the newest company to show interest in the said technology. The 6th biggest PC maker in the world is planning to follow the steps taken by Microsoft by creating its own version of the highly anticipated device HoloLens.
The aforementioned plan has been revealed by the chairman of the Asus company Jonney Shih to CNET. The tech company is now negotiating with Microsoft to use their technology for the augmented reality headset.
Microsoft has not yet released the most awaited device which will only be available to developers and not to consumers. With the plan of Asus to make its own version of the gadget, consumers might have the chance to use the said technology.
If the plan succeeds, the Taiwanese multinational company will be the first to develop a version of the headset which projects 3D images in front of the user's eyes. The device then overlays the images on real-world environments giving the user a realistic experience. Many users can gain access to the technology since Asus is known for developing affordable devices.
Microsoft is expecting for many companies to adopt the new technology which runs on Windows 10. The executive vice president of Windows and devices of the company Terry Myerson stated that, "Everything we're doing in hardware, we do with the mind of how do we grow the Windows ecosystem. That is why we're investing to create a category."
The Redmond-based company stated it is actually up to the chairman of Asus if they decide to make their own version of HoloLens.
Meanwhile, Microsoft HoloLens which was initially introduced last June during the E3 convention will be released for developers in the first quarter of 2016.
