The Flash Season 2: A Romance Between Barry Allen and Patty Spivot

The all new season of The Flash started this October, and everybody is on their toes with what could be a budding romance between Barry Allen (played by Grant Gustin) and Patty Spivot. Could it be? Is he over Iris? Has The Flash's heart been captured by a new lady love?

In an interview with Entertainment Weekly, Shantel VanSanten shared her experience on set. Shantel VanSanten plays Patty Spivot - a police officer who recently joined Joe West's (Barry Allen's surrogate Father played by Jesse L. Martin) Anti-Meta Human Task Force to avenge her father's death. The finale of The Flash Season 1 spurred a new twist to the Flash Saga as the "Singularity", or black hole, opened possibilities to an alternate universe and a host of new meta-human enemies. The addition of Patty as a new character opens romantic, and maybe some heroic, possibilities.

So where does Patty Spivot fit in to all of this? Can Shantel shed some light to some secrets? Shantel said that Patty's main secret was Mark Mardon (a meta-human) the man who had killed her father. This was the only secret revealed in the last episode. And what about Patty's relationship with Barry? Shantel reveals that Patty and Barry end up dating throughout the season and that they make a very comedic pair. She says that both understand the others' scientific and quite nerdy jokes. The likes of which Iris (Barry's lost love and best friend) never figured out in Season 1. .

She's the only person in the Anti-Meta Human Task Force, aside from Joe. Patty's a very spunky character as well as a scientific mind like Barry's. That's the reason why they seem to connect with each other and maybe because they share a similar past (a parent being killed by a meta-human). And in all things romantic and heroic, it seems that Patty's life may also be in danger. The closer she gets to Barry, the closer she is to risking her life.
