Grammy-winning rapper CeeLo Green was charged with one felony count of furnishing a controlled substance in a Los Angeles court on Monday, the Los Angeles Times reported.
Green, whose real name is Thomas DeCarlo Callaway is accused of giving the drug to a 33-year-old woman while dining at a restaurant in July 2012. After eating the two reportedly went to the woman's hotel room. The Los Angeles Times reported the woman said she woke up naked in bed with Green in her room.
Green, who is currently a judge on NBC's hit talent show "The Voice", pleaded not guilty to giving the woman ecstasy before going back to her hotel, but he was not charged with rape. TMZ reported the alleged victim claimed to have taped the singer talking about the incident. He said nothing about slipping ecstasy into her drink, but did reference the drug, TMZ reported. According to the gossip site, prosecutors viewed the tape as a confession.
Media reports state the "Forget You" singer was expected to be arraigned on Monday, with prosecutors requesting $30,000 for bail. If convicted, the singer faces up to four years in state prison.
"We are pleased that the Los Angeles County District Attorney has completed its investigation and concluded that the evidence did not support the false and unfounded claims made over a year ago," said Green's defense attorney Blair Berk.
Berk said any sexual contact between the two parties was consensual. Other reports state Green and the woman had been dating for months and had already been "intimate." "As it relates to the one charge of furnishing or sharing ecstasy, Green will responsibly address that matter in a court of law, she said.
Despite the negative attention, TMZ reported the singer's judging job is not in jeopardy.
"CeeLo will not be fired," Mark Burnett, executive producer of the NBC talent show told TMZ.
Green is expected to turn himself in for booking within 24 hours, and is due back in court next month.
