Halloween Makeup May Be Harmful To Children’s Health, Sen. Schumer Warns

Halloween is now days away and many are already preparing for their best costume for the once in a year event. To make costumes even more realistic, it should be matched with a perfect makeup.

In line with the fast approaching Halloween celebration, US Sen. Charles Schumer has issued a warning to the public regarding face paint that many children use during the said event.

Halloween makeup especially those that are made in China may contain harmful chemicals like nickel, lead, chromium and cobalt which are detrimental to health. The said chemicals may pose a serious health risks to children even to adults.

With the possible danger, the US Senator is encouraging the federal Food and Drug Administration in a letter to implement strict guidelines to the harmful Halloween makeup. The agency should take responsibility to ensure that the public will not be at risk especially in the upcoming Halloween celebration.

Sen. Charles Schumer pushes the FDA to expose the contents of the said products to inform the public. In this way, they will be even more encouraged to buy products wisely and examine the contents first.

"These toxic ingredients can make a child sick, but they're never listed on the package," said the US senator.

Since most kids love celebrating Halloween by wearing costumes and makeup like face paint, Schumer motivates parents to be more cautious in the cosmetics they let their children use.

"Parents are totally clueless as to what they're putting on their child's face. If they see it on the shelf they think it's safe, but it's not," said Sen. Schumer.

Sen. Schumer pushes parents to become wise buyers. The government official also advises parents to avoid China products just to be safe.

"When you buy makeup for your kids, make sure it doesn't say made in China," warns Sen. Schumer.
