The popular soft drinks company Pepsi Co. has partnered with a China-based company as part of an agreement to launch a smart phone in the country.
Pepsi has no plans of getting into a mobile phone manufacturing business but they are dedicated to connect with customers in innovative ways in order to develop their brand.
"Available in China only, this effort is similar to recent globally licensed Pepsi products which include apparel and accessories," the company's spokeswoman said.
This is the technique the worlds' third largest owner of food and beverages has to promote its other products in China by frequently showing the company logo in the mobile phones.
Reports have indicated that the new device will be called Pepsi P1 and this will be powered by Google's Android operating system. The features include a camera and 16 gigabytes storage for just $205.
According to Technology website Mobipicker the phone is "decent but not high end specs". It will be unveiled in the Market in Beijing on October 20.
China the Company was not that prepared for the media storm that this particular agreement would make, but certainly it did not mind the media hype. The company might feel differently if the actual phones hit the market already, especially when they don't get very positive reviews from consumer.
During the end of the day, this meticulous licensing agreement is almost certainly bound crepitate, though maybe the Pepsi phones could mark up to 100,000 sales due to all the current advertising. But aside from having the Pepsi name on them, these new Android-based models will have a not easy time differentiating themselves from a crowded field of phones that mostly look and perform the same.
The food and beverage company engaged itself with a new business strategy of expanding its brand by means of licensing tie-ups. Hollywood studios like Disney also have the similar deals with other businesses.
