Prince William Gives Moving Speech to Honor His Late Mother

"My mother was determined to help those in need and she would have been immensely proud - as I am - of all that Child Bereavement UK has achieved these last 21 years," the second-in-line to the British throne and eldest son of the late Princess Diana said, paying tribute to his mother. Princess Diana was the one who helped launch the charity in 1994. "Fifteen years later, I was honored to be invited to become a Patron of Child Bereavement UK to continue my mother has done to a charity which is very dear to me."

The Duke of Cambridge said, "21 years ago last month, my mother attended the launch of this charity."

Prince William, Duke of Cambridge, Royal Patron of Child Bereavement UK, makes a speech as he attends the charity's 21st Birthday Dinner to honour its work helping families to rebuild their lives after the devastation of child bereavement

The charity is run by Julia Samuel. She's one of the Princess Diana's closest friends when the latter was still alive and now a proud godmother to Prince George, Prince William's son. The charity assists children of military families, those of suicide victims, terminally-ill parents whose children need support at a time when they find it hard to cope with the inevitable death in the family.

The Prince described how he felt when he lost his own mother in a tragic accident in 1997 as "the most painful experience" any child or parent can endure. "As a father to two young children myself, I appreciate it now more than ever," he said. William rarely speaks publicly about his mother, but tonight, he honored her work and her compassion to those who are experiencing grief.

Prince William said nothing but praises for the charity his late mother launched and supported. Both Prince William and Prince Harry are patron of their mother's most meaningful charities and are determined to keep Princess Diana's legacy alive. The Charity Child Bereavement UK event was part of a busy day for His Royal Highness. The Duke of Cambridge spent the afternoon at the Cambridge University college, where he studied agriculture, and met with professors.
