Is 'Fantastic Four' finally coming back to Marvel?
According to Den of Geek, there have been rumors that the freshly rebooted 20th Century Fox-owned is being returned to Marvel in favor of the more successful 'X-Men' franchise. A deal was reportedly made so Fox can produce two 'X-Men' TV shows ('Legion' and 'Hellfire') while Marvel will get to work on more movies up to 2020.
"According to our source, Fox were given the TV rights for 'X-Men' in exchange for 'Fantastic Four.' The deal's been in the works for some time, we're told, and further, the timing of Marvel's recent announcement of its movie slate leading up to the year 2020 and the X-Men TV series is no coincidence," the article read.
In addition to getting 'Fantastic Four' back into its fold, Marvel will reportedly get rights to the Silver Surfer, as well as Doctor Doom and Galactus.
So what does this mean for MCU?
"If the deal pans out as our contact says it will, this means that two of the biggest villains in comic books will be able to appear elsewhere in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, and not just in the 2020 film we've heard is already in place," the report read.
But before you can start screaming "Flame on!" and practicing your best Human Torch impression, 20th Century Fox immediately addressed the rumors, calling it "completely untrue."
Marvel has also followed suit, announcing that the speculations were false.
The first 'Fantastic Four' comic book was published in November 1961 and immediately inspired four different TV shows starting in 1967. The comic book was later adapted into a full feature film starring Ioan Gruffudd as Mr. Fantastic, Jessica Alba as Susan Storm, Chris Evans as Johnny Storm and Michael Chiklis as Ben Grimm. The 2015 reboot featuring Miles Teller, Kate Mara, Michael B. Jordan and Jamie Bell was released on August 7.
