It seems like televiewers are sick of watching zombies as the rating of the long running American series 'The Walking Dead' starts staggering.
Unlike what the AMC Networks expected, the viewers of the show went down to 14.6 million during the season premiere compared to the overwhelming 17.3 million audiences who watched the premiere of the previous season. The said rating is also lower than the viewers recorded in the year 2013 which is 16.1 million.
Though this sounds like good news to other competing networks, AMC reasoned that the lower rating was due to the most watched football game of San Francisco and the New York Giants. Since it was the last play of the competing teams, people got excited and preferred to watch the game.
Besides the Sunday night football game, the duration of the premiere episode also turned off the viewers. The network added 30 minutes to the conventional one-hour long episode.
AMC is still positive since the series which is based on the book series written by author Robert Kirkman is still on the top list. 'The Walking Dead' has been consistent on being on the second place next to the 'NCIS' during the past week.
On Twitter, the show about the zombie apocalypse garnered around 1 million mentions which somehow mean that the drama series is still one of the favorite of viewers.
On Facebook, 'The Walking Dead' which stars Andrew Lincoln and Norman Reedus was also the number one show base on the users' reaction to the series.
Meanwhile, CBS was able to garner the highest ratings for the week with its average 10.3 million viewers. The network was followed by NBC which accumulated an average of 7.7 million ratings.
ABC which is owned by The Walt Disney Company garnered 6 million viewers while Fox had an average viewer number of 3.7 million.
