Carrie Underwood seems ready for "The Sound of Music" to premier.
The country singer tweeted a picture of herself in full costume with the braids, billowing sleeves and the look of bliss on her face.
Underwood will be starring as the iconic role of Maria von Trapp in a live NBC production of the classic musical "The Sound of Music." The original role was made famous by actress Julie Andrews in the 1960s. Tony Award-winning stage veterans Audra McDonald, Laura Benanti and Christian Borle are also joining the cast.
"True Blood" star Stephen Moyer will take on the lead role of Capt. Georg von Trapp.
McDonald will play Mother Abbess, Borle will tackle von Trapp family friend Max Detweiler, and Bananti will portray Elsa Schrader, the Captain's one-time fiancée.
The three-hour live production set to air on NBC will be based on the 1959 Broadway production of "The Sound of Music".
"Right now, I'm working a lot of on my own, memorizing lines, working on the music with help," Underwood said according to Yahoo News. "I don't want it to sound like Carrie Underwood, country singer, singing 'The Sound of Music'. I really want to do the part justice, the way it was written, and immerse myself in this whole other world. I'm really excited to get that opportunity to step outside of my world and try something new.
The original Broadway production starring Mary Martin and Theodore Bikel opened on November 16, 1959. The film earned five Academy Awards. It tells the story of a woman who leaves an Austrian convent to become a governess to the children of a Naval officer widower.
