'Breaking Bad' Spin-off: AMC Picks Up Prequel 'Better Call Saul'

"Breaking Bad" fans may have something to look forward to after the series finale.

AMC and Sony Pictures Television announced on Wednesday a spinoff from the controversial show, which will feature the popular supporting character Saul Goodman, in an one-hour prequel titled "Better Call Saul."

The show will center on Bob Odenkirk as Saul Goodman, the morally compromised lawyer who has represented meth dealer Walter White and Jesse Pinkman.

AMC said the new series would focus on Goodman before he crossed paths with the drug czars. The network provided no further details.

"As conceived, the new series is based on the show's popular Saul Goodman character with the working title Better Call Saul," the studio and network confirmed in a joint statement, according to The Hollywood Reporter. "Plans call for Saul to be a one-hour prequel that will focus on the evolution of the popular Saul Goodman character before he ever became Walter White's lawyer."

According to The Hollywood Reporter, the project stalled due to weeks of harsh negotiations between networks. The series is expected to move forward with writer-producer Peter Gould, who created Goodman's character back in season two. "Breaking Bad" creator, Vince Gilligan, will remain involved in the spinoff project.

Goodman's character first appeared in the 2009 episode "Better Call Saul," which saw Walt (Cranston) and Jesse (Aaron Paul) employ the criminally-minded attorney to get one of their dealers, Badger (Matt Jones), out of legal trouble.

"Breaking Bad" concludes its five-season run on Sept. 29.
