Gina Gershon Donatella Versace: Actress Unrecognizable in New Lifetime Movie (PHOTOS)

Gina Gershon looks unrecognizable in her new role.

It was reported last month that the actress would play Donatella Versace in the Lifetime original movie, "House of Versace." Us Weekly released the first look of Gershon as the legendary fashion icon.(PHOTOS)

Us Weekly reports, Gershon is the spitting image of the designer in the picture the "Killer Joe" star is sporting Donatella's notorious long blond locks, signature plump lips and dark smoky eyes. The 51-year-old actress is also rocking flashy jewelry and a silver metallic dress.

According to The New York Post, the actress recreated the fashion maven's pout with the help of cotton stuffed under her upper lips; her nose was "reshaped" with the use of plenty of makeup to highlight and contour her face, the movie's make-up artist, Kathy Kelso, told the Post.

"She goes through an evolution," Gerhon told the Post. "She physically changes, as we all know, and it was important to be as truthful about that as possible. It's movie magic, a little tape and glue." 

According to the Hollywood Reporter, the film is based on Wall Street Journal reporter Deborah Ball's book "House of Versace: The Untold Story of Genius, Murder, and Survival."

It follows the life of the 58-year-old fashion icon after her brother Gianni Versace's is murdered in 1997. In an effort to carry on her brother's legacy, the fashion designer is thrown in to the spotlight as the new head designer. 

She is quickly ridiculed by critics, which causes her to head for a downward spiral of drug abuse and  nearly causing the company to go bankrupt. Also causing bad press for her brother's company. 

The troubled designer, with the help of friends and family, gets back on track and reinvents the Versace name, making it one of modern era's most successful fashion empires.  

According to International movie Database, the film also stars Raquel Welch as Donatella's Aunt Lucia. Actor Colm Feore plays her brother Santo.
The movie is set to premiere Oct. 5 at 8 p.m. on Lifetime.
