The Dirt Road Cookers, a team of eight caterers from San Antonio, Texas, broke the Guinness World Record for the largest pizza, according to the New York Daily News.
The caterers baked a massive 46.64 square-foot pie (PHOTOS), which was twice the size of the current holder. The previous record belonged to Big Mama's and Papa's Pizzeria in Los Angeles in California. According to the Daily News it became a favorite with celebrities.
The record-breaking pizza weighed about 100 pounds and took nearly two hours to cook. According to the Daily News, the Dirt Road Cookers, were led by head chef and owner Kurt Oefinger.
The 30-year-old chef would like some of Big Mama's pizza to rub onto him, so his pizza would be just as popular.
"To set a new world record for the largest commercially available pizza was never something we set out to do. It just kind of happened we were already doing it without knowing," Kurt said. "When it came to my knowledge I could get into the record book for it then decided to look into the paper work and see how it could be made official.
According to the Daily News, Kurt said it took nearly eight people to handle the pizza. Kurt lead the team, and appointed one person to look over the fire, two were appointed to set toppings and other two were assigned to the base. Kurt said he had two female employees to help with things such as water because it often became hot.
"It's nice to be officially recognized - it took an entire year to design the fire we use and then a further year for me to build it," he said. "So it's all been worth it just to make a lot of people happy."
