A 70-year-old man was fired from his job for farting too much.
Daily News reports Richard Clemm was fired from Case Pork Roll Company because he was discharging too much gas that allegedly masked the smell of their famous hickory-smoked ham.
"I think it's disgusting. This is all very embarrassing," said the 70-year-old former comptroller who hails from Pennsylvania. "The fact is that I was a loyal and trusted employee for 10 years."
Clemm weighed 420 pounds when he had undergone a bypass surgery in 2010 due to obesity. The operation that saved his life worsened his "extreme gas and uncontrollable diarrhea," a condition he's struggling with for years.
"It was very dangerous. More than once, I'm arriving for work and I'm up the steps and into the bathroom right away," he explained. "You don't hold it in. You don't do it. You're not going to make it. I always kept a change of clothes at work just in case."
According to a lawsuit filed by Clem's wife, Louann, his gas issues prompted constant complaints from his boss, Thomas Dolan, president of the Trenton, New Jersey-based company.
"We have to do something about Rich. This can't go on," Dolan said according to the lawsuit filed last month. "We cannot run an office and have visitors with the odor in the office."
"Tell Rich that we are getting complaints from visitors who have problems with the odors," Dolan allegedly ordered.
Clemm added he only shared an office with his wife and didn't interact with the visitors. "We just opened a window if we wanted to. We used to burn candles all the time," he said.
As stated on the lawsuit, Clemm was forced to work from his home and was eventually fired on February 28, 2014.
Louann worked as his part-time administrative assistant and left her job on the same day after the "harassment and discrimination her husband faced."
Despite losing 300 pounds and taking medication to control his gaseous outbreak, Clemm is still anxious to look for another job.
"I feel better, but there goes my reputation," he admitted. "Who wants to hire a fart boy?"
