Animal migration is such an amazing event that happens in different places in the world. In the African plain it is a site to behold. Numerous wild animals in the African safari migrate from one place to another to find new grazing land.
Kenya's tourist's board made it possible for anyone in the world to view the magical event. Phone applications like Periscope and Youtube's livestream video are the platforms, which will enable people from different part of the world to stream the migration in real time.
The stream was also made possible through the DiscoverAfrica.com, a company that is behind the HerdTracker web application.
This year's migration an estimated one million wildebeests, over 200,000 gazelles, zebras, impalas and elands are said to move from the Serengeti in Tanzania to the Maasai Mara in Kenya. The animals will be doing a 1,000 mile trek.
Livestreams from Youtube, Periscope and Herdtracker will happen two times a day, each 20 minutes long. One can receive a notification when the streaming will start through registering with the HerdTracker app.
The migration of animals in the African safari is a well-known occurrence, it happens annually, but the wildebeests are a sight to behold. The migration usually starts in June through October.
The livestream will show jaw dropping scenes during the migration, animals with go through dangerous paths during their thousand mile trek. The grazing animals will come face to face with the crocodile infested waters of the Mara River. Once they reach the Maasai Mara, the animals will pass a gauntlet through one of the densest lion concentration in the world. Numerous predators will also be present during the migration.
This is the first time that Kenya has ever partnered with DicoverAfrica.com when it comes to livestreaming migrating animals.
The migration is reminiscent of a scene from the Lion King. But difference between the two, what you see in this stream is very real, and not an animation.
