Ben Whishaw is Happily Gay and Married

Actor Ben Whishaw announced he was gay and married all at once.

Whishaw married his long-time partner Australian composer Mark Bradshaw, in Sydney last August.

"Ben has never hidden his sexuality, but like many actors he prefers not to discuss his family or life outside of his work," a rep for the actor told the U.K. Daily Mail. "Due to speculation, I can confirm that Ben and Mark entered into a civil partnership in August 2012. They were proud to do so and are very happy."

Speculation of the actor's sexuality first began after a 2011 interview with Out Magazine, in which he played around the question about gay role models in the media.

"I really agree with that, and I feel in my heart that it's important, but I don't quite know yet the way to go about that," he said. "Maybe that's that transitional thing I feel I'm in the middle of at the moment. It's something I think about, but it's important for me to do it at the time that's right for me. And I'm not there yet."

The couple met on the set of 2009's "Bright Star" about John Keats's heartbreaking love affair with neighbor Fanny Brawne before his death from TB. Whishaw played Keats while Bradshaw composed the score.

"Everyone's delighted for them. Mark's a lovely guy, very talented and very close to Jane Campion" a friend of the couple told the Daily Mail.  "There hasn't been a chance for a big celebration because of Ben's schedule but I'm sure there will be one at some point,"

In an interview to promote "Skyfall" last year, Whishaw answered questions about his private life.

"For me, it's important to keep a level of anonymity. As an actor, your job is to persuade people, that you're someone else," he said. "So if you're constantly telling people about yourself, I think you're shooting yourself in the foot."
