UFC Fighter 'Jon Jones' Released with Official Statement After Pleading Guilty of Hit and Run

One of the sought after UFC fighters made the headlines as he was convicted of hit and run; as of For the Win website Jon Jones was arrested last April. As per reports he hit a 25 year old pregnant woman, and broke her arm in New Mexico. The police then reported that his SUV run a red light which caused the woman's vehicle to hit a third car.

He was arrested the day after the accident; he was then released after a $2,500 bond. After the accident, the UFC fighter was stripped of his belt [light-heavyweight title] and got suspended.

The MMA Weekly website then made a follow up report in regards to his case. He pleaded guilty of felony charge after leaving the accident. He is being sentenced to 18 months of supervised probation and 72 speaking appearances with youth groups.

Jones was then granted conditional discharge, part of the agreement stated that if he meets all the conditions that the judges asked him to follow, he would avoid having felony go on his record. In addition to the deal, he would no longer be restricted to travel and would already be available to fight.

Jones then released an official statement via EAG Sports Management stating:                                                         

"With regards to today's decision made by the court, I am very happy to now be able to put this incident behind me. My actions have caused pain and inconvenience in the lives of others and for that I am truly sorry and accept full responsibility. I have been working hard   during this time away from my sport to grow and mature as a man and to ensure that nothing like this happens again. I have learned a great deal from this situation and I am determined to emerge a better person because of it.

"I apologize to those who were affected by my actions in this incident and I am hopeful that I will be given the opportunity to redeem myself in the eyes of the public, my family and friends as well as my supporters. I am not sure what the future holds for me but I plan to continue to do the work needed to be productive and successful in every aspect of my life."
