"Dancing With the Stars" favorite bad boy, Maks Chmerkovskiy, could be returning to the dance floor.
ABC president of Entertainment Paul Lee was asked during the Television Critics Association press tour about Chmerkovskiy future on the show.
"Maks is part of the family. He may well be back," Lee said according to USA Today. "We love having him a part of it."
Season 16 was the dancer-turned actors' first time not being on the show, but he did make an appearance during the season finale, when country singer Kellie Pickler's won America's votes.
Chmerkovskiy let his fans know before season 16 aired that he would not be returning to the show and he had no bad blood with the ABC show.
"I just want to set the record straight to all of my amazing fans that I will unfortunately not be returning for this season of Dancing with the Stars," the 33-year-old said. "I've been a pro dancer on the show for about seven years now and am eager to explore other opportunities that have been made possible because of Dancing with the stars."
Chmerkovskiy had a couple or rocky seasons in which he and the judges clashed on opinions of his performances. Chmerkovskiy former partners include actress Denise Richards, singer Melanie Brown, journalist Erin Andrews and Olympic volleyball gold medalist Misty May-Treanor.
Chmerkovskiy is currently performing on Broadway with his former fiancée Karina Smirnoff in "Forever Tango." He is scheduled to end is Broadway debut on Aug. 11
The new season of "Dancing with the stars" begins Sept. 16 at 8 p.m. and is reported to air on Mondays nights only. No more results shows on Tuesdays. "Dancing With the Stars" fan favorite Derek Hough told "Access Hollywood" that he will be coming back for season 17 of the show.
"We've got one show a week now, but I think I'll make a better show, more jam packed. And so I'm excited about it," Hough said.
