Lorde leaves an illicit lover lasciviously devoted and enflamed in the striking new video for "Magnets," the New Zealand singer's collaboration with UK production duo Disclosure.
The clip opens on a luxurious party in the Hollywood Hills, the sky painted purple as Lorde looks longingly at an empty pool before sashaying through the crowd and catching the eye of the host.
Upon initial viewing, one might assume that the video chronicles yet another Fatal Attraction narrative, wherein a mistress takes her brutal revenge on a man determined to shake her.
Just when fans think the 18-year-ols is a man- stealing hussy, it was then realized that she’s actually a ‘hit girl’ hired by a woman to kill her abusive boyfriend.
At the end, the two women join forces, and Lorde, donning a slick, vicious vinyl jacket, returns to the pool where she first met the man, finds him tied to a chair and kicks him into the water. For good measure, she tosses a lighter into the liquid and sets him ablaze.
Lorde explained the concept on her Tumblr page: “The most important detail is the girlfriend’s black eye, when she’s by the window.. watch it with that moment in mind. that’s the point the whole video hinges on. Takes it from being ‘an affair narrative’ to being ‘dude’s girlfriend hired miss ella the hit girl to ‘seduce’ him then take him the F*** out.’”
"Magnets" is one of a number of high-profile collaborations on Disclosure's new LP, Caracal, which also features The Weeknd, Sam Smith, Miguel and jazz singer Gregory Porter. The new album marks the follow-up to the group's widely acclaimed 2013 breakthrough debut, Settle.

Lyrics:
Never really felt bad about it
As we drank deep from a lie
Cause I felt melting magnets babe
The second I saw you through half shut eyes
Smoke and sunset, off Mulholland
He was talking, I was wondering 'bout
You and that girl, she your girlfriend?
Face from heaven, bet the world she don't know
Pretty girls don't know the things that I know
But my way I'll share the things that you want
Uh-oh, dancin' past the point of no return
Let go, we can free ourselves of all we've learned
I love this secret language that we're speaking
Say it to me, let's embrace the point of no return
Let's embrace the point of no return
Let's embrace the point of no return
Never really thought we would make it
We be thinking about what could have been
But we've had a record summer, can't turn it down, oh
Now I don't wanna see the envy again
Smoke and sunset, off Mulholland
He was talking, I was wondering 'bout
You and that girl, is she your girlfriend?
Face from heaven, bet the world she don't know
Pretty girls don't know the things that I know
But my way I'll share the things that you want
Uh-oh, dancin' past the point of no return
Let go, we can free ourselves of all we've learned
I love this secret language that we're speaking
Say it to me, let's embrace the point of no return
Let's embrace the point of no return
