On Saturday, Billy Joel jokingly griped onstage during his show at NYC's Madison Square Garden, about his ex-wife Christie Brinkley dating John Mellencamp.
Joel, made this remark after performing "The Longest Time," one of his anthems about his second wife Brinkley, "And now she's dating John Mellencamp," Joel remarked before the vast crowd.
It was confirmed earlier this month that Brinkley and Mellencamp are in the beginning stage of a blossoming romance.
The couple were snapped in early September on their first date together.
Brinkley, is an American model and actress while John J Mellencamp also known as John Cougar Mellencamp, is an American musician, singer-songwriter, painter, and actor. He is known for his catchy, populist brand of heartland rock, which emphasizes traditional instrumentation.
Family is a great factor that brought Brinkley and John together. They love talking about their kids and being parents. Both went through divorce, so the couple can bond over that as well.
Meanwhile, Joel and Brinkley remained good friends. The exes who were married in 1985 upto 1994, had one daughter named Alexa Ray. She is now 28-years-old and is also into singing, songwriting and playing the piano.
Last August, Billy Joel even serenaded Brinkley at MSG with his smash hit "Uptown Girl," which featured Brinkley in its 1983 music video.
Brinkley finally took to Instagram where she reacted to the special song. "It was so sweet to share this moment with my other two kids," wrote the model, who brought her kids Jack and Sailor whom she shared with her ex-husbands Richard Taubman and Peter Cook respectively. "They loved it as much as I did, " she remarked.
Mellencamp, meanwhile, dated Meg Ryan for three years before splitting with her last August. However, both remained good pals as well.
“I'm very happy with the time I've spent with Meg Ryan," Mellencamp later told the Associated Press. "She's a beautiful girl and I know that I will never, ever,ever be with a funnier girl than her. Not gonna happen. I'm grateful for the three and a half years we've been together.”
