'Sherlock': Season Four to Begin Filming in April 2016 [PHOTOS]

Good and bad news for "Sherlock" fans!

Good news: there's going to be a one-off Victorian Christmas special - which doesn't take off from season three but does give an in-depth look into the characters' roots.

Bad news: season four for "Sherlock" will only begin filming in April 2016, so there's going to be a really, really long wait until the show hits back on the TV screen in spring 2016.

Talking to Collider, "Sherlock" co-creator Steven Moffat revealed:

"Mark [Gatiss, co-creator] will be starting very soon. He may have started. I've got to finish my 'Doctor Who' Christmas special, and then I'll be straight onto 'Sherlock' after that. We haven't started, but we've planned. We know what we're doing. Haha. Or we think we know what we think we're going. There are a couple of things we've got lined up that are really quite strong surprises, but we'll see."

When asked on when the filming will start, Steven Moffat answered, "I think we're shooting next year, April-ish."

As for the fourth season, Steven Moffat also shared some insights as to what fans could expect in the coming season, calling it an "emotional upheaval" in the lives of the "Sherlock" characters.

Not only that, but fans will soon get to see the "consequences" of Sherlock's own actions. "[Season four is] dark in some ways," Moffat said. "Obviously it's great fun and a Sherlock Holmes romp and all that - but there's a sense of things coming back to bite you."

Talking about the Victorian Christmas special, "Sherlock" star Amanda Abbington shares: "It was just lovely doing that period. [...] I had some glorious things to wear and the boys looked great. Martin [Freeman] looks very fine in Victorian garments!"

Fans can catch Benedict Cumberbatch, Martin Freeman, Mark Gatiss, Amanda Abbington, and the rest of the "Sherlock" stars in the Christmas special airing on Masterpiece on PBS around Christmas time.
