Twinkies Return And Are In High Demand

Twinkies are on the rise.

Four days after the sugary snack returned to selves, Twinkies can be considered the new it snack of the summer. Hostess Brands said the demands for Twinkies and cupcakes are at a record high, according to the Huffington Post.

According to the Associated Press, sales are currently seven times greater than before. Orders are outnumbering production by a factor of 3 to 6. The company is running bakeries at maximum levels.

Numerous retailer apparently told Hostess that the iconic snack sold out just hours after they were put on shelves, according to the Huffington Post.

The Twinkies are a bit smaller than before, but that has not shrunk it's popularity.

After an eight-month hiatus, Hostess Brand LLC's spongy yellow cake returned to shelves on July 14. They will have a shelf life of 45 days. The shelf life is three weeks longer than the original 26 days shelf life, according to the Daily Meal.

Last November the company announced that they would shut down its plants and would be going out of business. The cakes returned with new ownership.
The company, founded in 1930, went bankrupt in 2012, laying off over 18,500 workers. According to CBS News, competition was increasing and Americans were becoming more conscious about eating healthy. Twinkies and other Hostess snacks companies were brought in 2013.
