Kanye West seems to be a big fan of Republican presidential candidate Ben Carson, to the point of getting in touch with the world renowned doctor, to have a phone conversation with him.
In his interview with Vanity Fair, Yeezus rapper showered praises to the retired neurosurgeon, while exclaiming that he is still considering running for the presidential seat in 2020.
"I want everyone to win. When I run for president, I'd prefer not to run against someone. I would be like "I want to work with you." As soon as I heard [Ben] Carson speak, I tried for three weeks to get on the phone with him. I was like this is the most brilliant guy. And I think all the people running right now have something that each of the others needs. But the idea of this separation and this gladiator battle takes away from the main focus that the world needs help and the world needs all the people in a position of power or influence to come together."
According to the Blaze, Kanye's reference to a "gladiator battle" appear to be aimed at Donald Trump's campaign that has attracted media attention because of its "brash demeanor". While Carson kept his campaign on low profile, "approaching politics with a far softer tone."
In an article written by Nicky Woolf for the Guardian he wrote:
"Armstrong Williams, Carson's business manager, confirmed that West had spent three weeks trying to get the Johns Hopkins neurosurgeon-turned-presidential candidate on the phone - and he had been successful. They spoke for about 45 minutes. It was a fun conversation. Kanye was singing and rapping on the phone."
The said conversation happened some time ago while Carson was still at Johns Hopkins, as Williams explained in the interview. "He thinks [Kanye] is a genius, He's [Ben Carson] grateful, and he's looking forward to Kanye getting involved in the campaign."
