More Beer is Good for the Heart?

A new study shows beer can improve heart health.

Researchers at Harokopio University in Athens have found that drinking a little more beer than usual, from time to time, can improve blood flow. It can also increase the flexibility of important arteries found around the heart according to the New York Daily News

The study said dinking about a pint of beer is good for the health.

According to the Daily News, researchers at the university measured the cardiovascular health of 17 non-smoking men in their late 20s and early 30s.

Each man was tested about an hour after consuming 400 milliliters of beer.

The scientists found that alcohol and antioxidants in beer are responsible for many health benefits. The study concluded aortic stiffness was reduced after each occasion. That meant arteries became more flexible.

The amount of beer they consumed is equivalent a little more than two-thirds of British pint (568 mL) or more than four-fifth of tan American pint (473 ml), according to the study.

According to the Daily News the test was ran two more separate times. The first occasion participants drank 400 mL of alcohol free beer. The second occasion, the men were tested after consuming a measure of vodka.

Scientists also reported that not all parts of the testing were great. The endothelial function, which measures how easily blood passes though major arteries, only improved after the men who drank beer.

The study was published online in the Journal Nutrition on Monday.
