Free Slurpee Day 2013: Bigger Sizes Mark Return of Popular Promotion (LOCATIONS)

The biggest day in Slurpee history is here. Free Slurpee Day is here and is bigger in size.

7-Eleven, is throwing out the 7.11 ounce Slurpees given away for the past decade and replacing it with a 12 ounce Slurpee, to make their unofficial birthday, July 11.

According to Laura Gordon, vice president of marketing and brand invocation that's 42 percent more free Slurpees. She told USA Today she estimated that 7-Eleven will give away about seven million Slurpees, at a retail value of $7.6 million.

"It helps us reconnect with people who love the SLURPEE," Gordon told USA Today.

Besides being larger in size the famous sugary drink will be less of a mess.

"Moms asked us for cups with lids," Gordon told USA Today. "That means less mess in the car."

7-11 is rolling out the red carpet to mark the store chain's big day. The chain introduced a Youtube presenting the Slurpee dance, new Slurpee flavors, party favors, a mobile phone app and Slurpee-Brand merchandises.

This summer's flavors include strawberry lemonhead and sugar-free mango lemonade.

Free Slurpee Day is the company's biggest marketing push of the year. The store chain has been promoting the event on Facebook since March 11, according to USA Today. It's also been selling Slurpee-Brand merchandise at some locations, including neon-colored Slurpee sunglasses and flip-flops that say Slurpee on the bottom.

"It's Slurpees biggest marketing tool," she said. "It reminds people about Slurpee but thanks them at the same time.

7-Eleven is the nation's largest convince store chains. It began in 1972 when a Southland Ice Company employee began to sell bread, milk and eggs in a ice dock. The chain has grown to over 10,00 stores and over 50,000 worldwide.

Free Slurpee Day began when the store celebrated its 75th birthday in 2002.
