Sophia Loren Bitten By Acting Bug Again At Age 78

Actress Sophia Loren has been bitten by the acting bug once again.

The legendary Italian actress will star in her first leading role in nearly a decade.

The Oscar-winner will star in a film called "La Voca Umana (The Human Voice)," which is based on a 1930 one person play by Jean Cocteau, according to the Hollywood reporter. The film will be directed by her 40-year-old son Eduardo Ponti.

Loren starred in the 2002 drama "Cuori estrani (Between Strangers)," also directed by her son. Ponti's feature film debut.

Filming will take place in multiple cities in Italy including Rome and Naples and will last around three weeks, according to the Hollywood Reporter. Last year at the Taormina Film Festival, Loren was honored with the lifetime achievement award for her iconic film career.

"I am very honored to win this wonderful award," the actress said on receiving the prestigious award.

Loren's return will be her first feature film since 2009's "Nine," also starring Daniel-Day Lewis. Loren received an Oscar for Best Actress in 1960 for her role in "Two Women."

Her last starring role was the 2004's comedy "Peperoni Ripieni e Pesci in Faccia (Too Much Romance ... it's time for Stuffed Peppers)."
