Funnyman Steve Carell is braving a more serious role alongside Brad Pitt, Christian Bale, and Ryan Gosling in the upcoming film, "The Big Short."
Academy Award winning actresses Marisa Tomei and Melissa Leo will join the A-list filled cast as well. Not to mention Finn Wittrock and Pulitzer Prize winning playwright and actor Tracy Letts.
The film is based on the 2010 bestselling non-fiction book by Michael Lewis, entitled "The Big Short: Inside the Doomsday Machine."
The film encapsulates the story behind "a risky investment" undertaken to create the "housing and credit bubble" between some clever investors, which took place right before the US economic collapse in 2008.
The film's script was written by Charles Randolph ("Love and Other Drugs"), before director Adam McKay ("Anchorman," "Anchorman 2," "Ant-Man," "Step Brothers," and "Tammy") adapted it into a screenplay.
Mashable describes "The Big Short" as:
"[...] 'The Big Short' looks like a cross between 'Margin Call' and 'The Wolf of Wall Street.' The trailer cuts between intense scenes of the men-talking-in-boardrooms variety and lavish parties enjoyed by the rich bankers who are causing the coming crisis. Its biggest draws may be star Steve Carell and [Adam] McKay, who provide the humor that gives the trailer its best moments."
