Paul Dini: Harley Quinn's Co-Creator Shared His Thoughts on Suicide Squad

Suicide Squad is one of the most awaited films that would be hitting the theaters next year and fans can seem to get enough updates regarding the movie and its characters. One of the all-time favorite is The Joker's love interest and Poison Ivy's best friend Harley Quinn.

Harley Quinn's character went through several remakes as she evolved all throughout the years. Her standard black and red harlequin costume set her character, but she then evolved during her appearance in Batman: Arkham City. Her most recent costume for Suicide Squad however never failed to impress her co-creator Bruce Timm as she transformed form leather clad wearing villain, into a punk rock inspired character.

During his interview on Screen Rant, the maker of Harley Quinn's character Paul Dini stated that the characters appearance is design to have "a real world look" and he described how Harley Quinn and Joker's character would fit "into the real world"

"Jared Leto's version of The Joker is almost like a decadent rock star... There's a little bit of Sid and Nancy to the Joker and Harley, which I always felt would not be a bad look if they were in a live-action movie. If you made the movie all fantasy, yes the animated look works well. But, if you put it in that realistic world, I feel like they would look like down-and out-rockers. They would look dangerous."

He then added:

"I know it's jarring to a lot of the people who love the classic Bruce Timm suit. I love it myself. But in that world, I just don't see it happening. It's a rougher, more street look. I think it works fine."

Aside from talking about Harley Quinn's character, Dini also described Margot's acting and the way she portrayed the well loved character.

"I think Margot is very nice. She's a wonderful actress, certainly very attractive and very talented. I'm very excited to see that interpretation of Harley. That's the thing about the character. Yeah I created her, but on the other hand I know that she's other people's toys and I can't get too possessive over that."
