Andy Samberg Emmy: How Did The Lonely Island ‘SNL’ Alum Fare With Critics After Hosting TV Academy Show? All About ‘Brooklyn Nine-Nine’ Star’s Gig! [VIDEO]

Earlier this year, it was announced that the former "Saturday Night Live" cast member, who these days is a Golden Globe-winning actor for his work in "Brooklyn Nine-Nine," would be taking the job of hosting the biggest award show in the Academy of Television - so, how was Andy Samberg's Emmy performance?

A longtime favorite when it comes to comedy, Andy Samberg's Emmy performance was favored by viewers, as many took to Twitter to talk about how funny the 37 year-old was being on the show, but professional critics weren't quite as kind with the star.

As Rolling Stone Magazine reports, Andy Samberg's Emmy hosting day kicked off just the way fans would expect of the comedian: with a big and flamboyant musical, as Samberg is most famous for being part of the comedy group The Lonely Island, which brought him an Emmy in 2007 for the classic skit "D**k in a Box" co-starring Justin Timberlake.

Later on, Variety called Andy Samberg's Emmy performance "somewhat miscast," claiming that while the actor and comedian wasn't bad in his role as emcee of the big show, it didn't feel quite right to have the Fox star there.

In the meantime, USA Today says Andy Samberg's Emmy hosting kept things "moving nicely" as the night went on, saying that while some of his jokes didn't "land" as well as others, for the most part he was a smooth host for TV's biggest night.

Slate Magazine, on the other hand, had nothing but love for Samberg's performance as host, giving their review of the ceremony the title of "The 2015 Emmys Reminded Us That The Emmys Can Be Good TV," so no harm done there.

Samberg had said beforehand that he wouldn't be reading bad reviews for his performance, but it seems critics think he was fairly solid - watch Andy Samberg's Emmy opening number below!
