Cowboys Quarterback Tony Romo Breaks Collarbone During Game

Tony Romo, the quarterback for the Dallas Cowboys started off the NFL season strong, helping his team beat the New York Giants in their first game. But, things got scary for the fans of the Cowboys when the team played the Philadelphia Eagles. Tony had to leave the game with a broken collarbone after a vicious hit.

The 35-year-old and the rest of the Cowboys rolled into Philadelphia for a matchup on September 20 with the Eagles. In the game’s third quarter, Tony was sacked by Eagles’ linebacker Jordan Hicks,Tony went down hard. He was escorted out of the game. The Cowboys announced that he had broken his left clavicle, reports NFL.com. Cowboys quarterback Brandon Weeden then had to take over and he helped the Cowboys win, 20-10.

"I'll be back," Romo said to Erin Andrews after the game, via Mike Garafolo of Fox Sports. "It's going to take a little bit of time. It's a broken bone. It is what it is."

Jason La Canfora of CBS Sports reported that Romo is expected to miss eight weeks with the injury. Later in the evening, ESPN's Adam Schefter reported that the Cowboys are "expecting" Romo to miss eight-to-10 weeks.

"We have to determine how much muscle damage there is in the shoulder," Cowboys head coach Jason Garrett told ESPN's Sal Paolantonio, per Archer. "Then we will have a better idea on the length of time he will miss."

Obviously the Cowboys will have a much tougher time replacing Romo than Bryant, and being without them both will spell disaster for the team. Romo was hit during a pass play. He braced his fall with his left arm, but then linebacker Jordan Hicks fell on him with all his weight and Romo stayed down grabbing his left shoulder.

Romo was taken back to the locker room right off the field. Brandon Weeden is the only other quarterback on the Cowboys' roster. He came in off the bench and went 7 of 7 for 73 yards and a touchdown.

The Cowboys now fear that the  window might have gotten even smaller. Their season is entirely reliant on the healthy return of Romo.
