Although at no point neither Ellie Goulding nor Ed Sheeran has confirmed that they were in a relationship, for a while it has been widely reported that "Don't," a song from Sheeran's 2014 album "X," is about the "Love Me Like You Do" singer's treatment of Sheeran.
After the scandal regarding Ellie Goulding and Ed Sheeran's supposed relationship broke out last year, it has been widely reported that there's tension between the two, and there were headlines all over the world when the two hugged during last December's Victoria's Secret fashion show.
Now that Goulding released her latest track, "On My Mind," there has been broad speculation that it's a response to Sheeran's take on Ellie Goulding and Ed Sheeran's relationship - but the "Bright Lights" singer has shut down these rumors.
"I'm sorry to all the people that want it to be about someone - it's not, it's like a myth," said Ellie to MTV, speaking about those persistent Ellie Goulding and Ed Sheeran rumors.
Her statements on the track don't seem to stick, however, and Digital Spy even created a list called "6 ways Ellie Goulding's new single takes a swing at Ed Sheeran: A lyrical breakdown," explaining exactly point by point how the track is supposedly about Ellie Goulding and Ed Sheeran's relationship.
The list basically compares the two songs, Sheeran's and Goulding's, in what seems to be a step-by-step of their supposed relationship: how their relationship began as casual, the fact that they both mention being at hotels and a number of other coincidences.
According to Hello! Magazine, Goulding didn't really write the song by herself, but it was a team effort from different experiences.
These days, both Ellie Goulding and Ed Sheeran are close friends with Taylor Swift and part of her squad, with Goulding supposedly even introducing Taylor to current boyfriend Calvin Harris - hopefully pal parties don't get too awkward!
