Was The Last Of Us 2 Just Outed By Accident on a Livestream?

Is a sequel to Naughty Dog's The Last of Us on the way? At a recent livestream event to promote the studio's latest release - a remastered collection of the first 3 Uncharted games - writer Josh Scherr all but confirmed the existence of a sequel thanks to an untimely slip of the tongue.

Video game website Gamepur was the first to pick up on the hint. While Scherr was conversing with community manager Eric Monacelli and lead animator Eric Baldwin, he uttered this:

"and he was the one in charge of face animation for the 3 Uncharted games and the first The Last of Us game... did I just say the first The Last of Us game?"

IGN have an edited version of the moment, available for viewing and it's pretty clear that Scherr senses he slipped up as he begins to stammer and repeat himself several times.

The whole moment is admittedly not much to go by. The original Last of Us game did have a downloadable expansion called Left Behind, so it's possible Scherr may be counting that as the second in the series, but that would seem like an even bigger reach than this is.

Originally released on Sony's Playstation 3, The Last of Us was one of the biggest critical and commercial successes of the last generation of video game consoles. Its score of 95/100 on review aggregator metacritic makes it one of the highest rated games available on the console.

The game tells the story of Joel and Ellie, two survivors making their way across a post-apocalyptic America torn apart by a contagious biological disease that transforms humans into feral zombies.

Whether or not a sequel is in the works, Naughty Dog fans can take solace in the fact that the developer's latest game, Uncharted 4, is penciled in for a March 2016 release.
