Two explosions jolted the finish line of the Boston Marathon on Monday afternoon, injuring multiple people.
CNN, who had a producer on site, reported that at least a dozen people have been injured thus far. Boston police recently confirmed two people are dead.
CNN producer Matt Frucci elaborated a bit further on the explosions, saying they were placed on separate sides of the street by the finish line.
The first explosion left "a big plume of smoke" hovering over Boston's Copley Square. The second explosion went off around 10 seconds later.
The initial blast occurred at 2:45 p.m. roughly an hour after the first people finished the race, which was immediately brought to a halt upon the explosions.
Fearing any further blasts, the Boston Fire Department evacuated all equipment off Boylston Street, according to the Washington Post.
A Boston firefighter also tweeted that "another possible device" was going to go off at the Mandarin Hotel, although this has yet to be confirmed according to the Post.
Those responsible for the explosions are still unknown at the moment.
Paramedics had to treat several victims at the scene, while others were rushed to Massachusetts General Hospital. Many of the people hurt were bystanders watching people cross the finish line.
The Massachusetts National Guard was also brought in to assist police.
One of the onlookers, Josh Matthews, said he heard the explosion go off and saw police rushing to the scene.
"We just heard a lot of sirens, and people were kind of frantic, and it was a bad situation, so we got out of there," he said.
Another onlooker, Pam Howze, said she didn't see the explosion, but heard it.
"We didn't see anything," she said. "We were walking away and all we heard were two booms....We just left the area."
The race had 27,000 participants this year from at least 56 countries and territories according to CNN.
