Study Shows Diet Sodas Have The Tendency To Make A Person Fat

It is a common misconception that drinking diet sodas would contribute to losing weight, apparently that is not the case. According to Times Magazine, a recent study made by a researcher from the University of Illinois said that those who choose to drink diet sodas are more likely to take in more calories in order to compensate the low calorie content it provides.

Professor Ruopeng An, who is a kinesiology and community health professor, lead the research and he observed this study to more than 22,000 adults in the states for about a decade.

He carefully looked into those people's calorie intake on a daily basis along with their intake of foods that contain less when it comes to nutrients (like candies and fast food meals). Along with these kinds of meals, he also conducted this research observing his subjects as they drink five various types of drinks including diet sodas, regular sweetened sodas, caffeinated ones from coffee and tea and finally, alcoholic beverage.

Professor An said,  "It may be that people who consume diet beverages feel justified in eating more, so they reach for a muffin or a bag of chips." He also added explaining, "Or perhaps, in order to feel satisfied, they feel compelled to eat more of these high-calorie foods."

CBS Minnesota also got a hold of this report and concluded that caffeine drinkers are not exempted to this.  They would have the same manner of thinking when it comes to consuming additional calories knowing their beverage provides low calorie intake.

The Journal of the Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics published the whole written study that Professor An made with his team. So the next time you go out and eat, it's best to just drink fruit juices or water to be safe.
