Ridley Scott has confirmed reports that the sequel to "Prometheus" will be his immediate next film in a recent interview with the Deadline.
After receiving strong reviews for his sci-fi epic "The Martian," he confirmed to the news outlet that the pre-production on the film has already begun. However, he clarified no actual shooting location has been locked in despite earlier reports of a Sydney shoot.
"[Michael] Fassbender will do this one with me, and it's meant to start production in February," the 77-year-old English producer said. "I'm in prep, now. I'll either shoot in Aussie, or here."
When asked about the plot, Ridley said: ""You can either say, leave the first film alone and jump ahead, but you can't because it ends on too specific a plot sentence as she says, I want to go where they came from, I don't want to go back to where I came from..."
"It is pretty grand thinking, and that's what I want to explore. You've got to go back and find those engineers and see what they are thinking," the "American Gangster" director added. "If engineers are the forerunners of us, and therefore were creators of life forms in places that were possible for biology to function, who created that?"
Michael Green is currently revising the script. It is believed to focus on scientist Elizabeth Shaw (Noomi Rapace) and android David (Fassbender) as they travel to the home of the Engineers, Dark Horizons informed.
Back in August, Den of Geek reported there were suggestions that Ridley would pass on the directing "Prometheus 2" and take a producer role. "After all, his slate of projects is hardly small, and he's making major, complicated films at a rate of one a year right now."
"The Martian" will be shown in theaters on October 2nd. If "Prometheus 2" begins filming February next year, then it will possibly be released on Summer 2017.
