Kerry Simon Chef, 60 Year-Old ‘Iron Chef’ From Las Vegas, Passes Away After Battling Parkinson’s Similar Illness

One of the biggest cooks and restaurateurs in Sin City, Kerry Simon chef, has unfortunately passed away after battling Multiple System Atrophy, a condition with similar symptoms to Parkinson's Disease, for the past couple of years.

People close to Kerry Simon chef have confirmed that the 60 year-old chef, who once won "Iron Chef" and later on appeared on the Gordon Ramsay show "Hell's Kitchen," passed away from complications of MSA after being diagnosed in 2013, a struggle he made public in the last two years of his life.

According to Yahoo! News, Kerry Simon chef passed away last Friday, while he was in hospice care in Las Vegas battling the condition, though business partner Cory Harwell stated publicly that at no point did Simon ever let his condition keep him from cooking or running his business, the Simon Kitchen & Bar at Las Vegas' Hard Rock Hotel and Casino.

Kerry Simon chef's degenerative neurological disorder causes cell erosion that ultimately leads to problems with movement, autonomic functions of the body (like blood pressure regulation and bladder control) as well as balance, leading to comparisons to Parkinson's; however, patients of MSA very rarely respond to the same treatments as those with Parkinson's, as there are still no causes known for this disorder.

As The Daily Mail reports, since the announcement of the death of Kerry Simon chef, tributes have poured in for the man known as the rock-and-roll chef, who is credited with helping the way the Vegas dining landscape has looked in the past few years.

Las Vegas Weekly beautiful tribute to Simon calls him "the quintessential Vegas chef," with an ode to the chef's focus on mixing comfort food in fine dining, bringing "the balance between indulgence and moderation."

Three brothers survive Kerry Simon chef and there's still no word on his funeral services.
