On Saturday, Ryan Gosling and Eva Mendes celebrated the first birthday of their daughter, Esmeralda Amada in their Los Angeles home.
Entertainment Tonight reports the intimate party only gathered closest family and friends including Mendes' sister, Janet, and Gosling's mother, Donna. The actor's older sister, Mandi was also seen entering the house with a tiny homemade chocolate cake topped with raspberries.
A bunch of birthday presents such as a rocking horse, a Disney baby bag and ball pit accessories were also found outside waiting for the birthday girl.
"It was a pretty quiet family affair," an eyewitness told ET. "There was no music or any sign of other babies or older kids."
The first-time parents welcomed their daughter in September 12, 2014 and named her after the famous Disney character. "Ryan and I both love the Esmeralda character from the Victor Hugo novel, The Hunchback of Notre Dame, and we just think it's a beautiful name," the 41-year-old actress explained.
"Amada was my grandmother's name," Mendes added. "It means 'beloved' in Spanish."
Gosling and Mendes started dating in 2011 after meeting at the set of "Place Beyond The Pines".
Two months after giving birth, Mendes opened up about how it's like to be a mom.
"I'm so incredibly tired. I thought I was tired at times before but no, nothing like this," she shared.
The actress, however, changed her tone after finally getting used to it. "I'm actually enjoying the sleepless nights because it's bonding with my little girl," she told Women's Health in its April issue.
Raising a family is now a top priority for Gosling, who has kept his personal life very private. "His family is now his number one priority," a source close to Gosling previously told Us Magazine. "He's accomplished everything work-wise that he had hoped and this is the next step in his life."
