Joe Montana will likely be regarded as one of the best quarterbacks in NFL history, racking up four Superbowl's with the 49ers in the 80's.
Now, his son is trying to create a legacy of his own in the NFL.
Nate Montana, 23, worked out at a regional NFL combine in Cowboys Stadium in Texas on Monday, the SFGate reports.
The NFL draft begins on April 25 and will continue until the 27.
After graduating from De La Salle High School in California, and the forebearer of a household last name, Nate struggled to find his groove in college, playing on one football team after the other.
He first walked on to Notre Dame 2008, only to leave the next year to attend Pasadena City College.
After staying in Pasadena for a year, he re-enrolled at Notre Dame, this time being placed way down on the depth chart. After seeing limited action, only passing for 116 yards with one interception, Montana changed schools again and wound up at the University of Montana in 2011.
He remained a backup and transferred, yet again, to West Virginia Wesleyan College in 2012. There he saw much more time in the starting role and finished with 2,480 passing yards and 19 touchdowns.
Though he proved himself to be an adequate football player in his one year of starting experience, experts believe that Montana is a long shot to get drafted.
"It's going to be hard for him to transition to the next level," NFL.com analyst Bucky Brooks said, according to SportsWorldReport. "His passes don't have zip. He has difficulty making pro throws. He's a great kid, his measurables are fine, but in terms of playing at the next level, his performance here was not very good."
However, the Montana legend may still live on in the NFL if Nate fails to make the transition to the pro game. His younger brother, Nick, is currently enrolled at Tulane.
