Everybody's imaginary boyfriend, Jake Gyllenhaal is back in Toronto International Film Festival (TIFF) as he stars in 'Demolition' as a New York investment banker who loosens up after his wife, played by Naomi Watts, had been killed in a car accident. The said opening film is directed by Quebecois filmmaker Jean-Marc Vallee ("Dallas Buyers Club")
"This is probably the most rock 'n' roll film I've ever made," said Vallee in an interview. Coincidentally, he was also the director of "Wild" with Reese Witherspoon, which also premiered at TIFF in 2014. "I think we're going to set the tone for the festival with the noise we're going to make tonight."
Gyllenhaal, who has been in TIFF for four consecutive years now made mention about breaking in his movie in the festival, he said, "There's an energy here. I think there's a sense of supporting an artistic vision, not that many other cities in the world don't have that, but Toronto in particular has a sense of freedom. There's very little judgment in artistic expression here, and I think that's why people come here."
Oscar winner, Natalie Portman was also seen in the exclusive TIFF pre-opening night. She walked the red carpet wearing a one shoulder gown this time for her directional debut film, A Tale of Love and Darkness.
The Toronto Film Festival will run for the next 10 days, featuring the premieres of Ridley Scott's The Martian a space survival tale that stars Matt Damon, along with I Saw the Light with Tom Hiddleston and Elizabeth Olsen the gay rights drama "Freeheld," with Julianne Moore and Ellen Page; Our Brand Is Crisis with Sandra Bullock and Billy Bob Thornton the CBS News docudrama Truth, with Robert Redford and Cate Blanchett; and Sicario with Emily Blunt, Josh Brolin and Benicio Del Toro among others.
