'Batman V Superman' Director Zack Snyder Throws Shade at 'Ant-Man'; Calls Superhero ‘Flavor of the Week’?

DC's "Batman v. Superman" Director Zack Snyder, recently expressed his opinion about the impending doom of superhero movies, but not without throwing shade at Marvel's "Ant-Man," reported IGN.

The story came out Thursday in an interview with The Daily Beast. The "Batman v. Superman" director was asked by the reported what he thinks of Steven Spielberg's recent comments about superhero movies eventually dying out. According to Mashable, Snyder's answer shows his belief of DC Comics immune to such downfall.

"I feel like he's right. But I feel like Batman and Superman are transcendent of superhero movies in a way, because they're Batman and Superman," the "Batman v. Superman" director told The Daily Beast of "Ant-Man."

"They're not just, like, the flavor of the week Ant-Man-not to be mean, but whatever it is. What is the next Blank-Man?" he said.

As for Chris Nolan's Batman trilogy, he praised the franchise.

"It's a tricky process, setting up the DC universe, or Justice League," he said. "The credit goes to Chris Nolan because he set the dye for the DC universe in a great way that I tried to emulate."

"I look at it as more being mythological than, say, bubblegum. And I think that that's appropriate for Batman and Superman because they're the most mythological of our superheroes," he added.

While Snyder may present a valid point, as the DC superheroes Batman and Superman are one of the most popular in the world. However, it cannot be denied that Marvel superheroes have also been around as long as the two.

"Ant-Man" wasn't exactly a big hit, but Marvel is a huge success in creating superhero movies. According to The New York Daily News, "Batman v. Superman" is WB's first big effort when it comes to sharing superhero universes, akin to Marvel's "franchises-within-a-franchise playbook" technique such as with "Iron Man," "Captain America," "Thor" and "Avengers."
