"Krampus": A Horror Movie for You This Christmas

Universal Pictures has decided to beat the Christmas rush as it releases the first trailer of "KRAMPUS" three months early according to Variety. This one will surely crumple your Christmas spirit and will appeal to those who hate the Holiday Season.

The horror-comedy revolves around a young boy who had a bad Christmas and ended up summoning an evil spirit. He seemed to have lost the holiday spirit amidst dysfunctional family clashes, unintentionally causing the appearance of "Krampus", a force of ancient entity from European folklore. When the family accidentally unleashed the wrath of Krampus, all hell breaks loose as evil spreads, summoning monstrous life on holiday icons.

Krampus is the exact opposite of Santa Clause. He is a demon that takes the form of a goat and a man. He shows up in a small town of Krampusnacht (Krampus Night) in early December with a bundle of birch sticks on his back used to whipping bad and naughty children. According to Wired, he is also known to take kids' presents and in cases of naughty children, packs them away and take them to his underworld den. These children are then chewed down as Christmas dinner.

The Universal-Legendary Pictures title stars Adam Scott (Parks and Recreation), Toni Collette (The Way Way Back), David Koechner (Anchorman 1 and 2), Allison Tolman (Fargo Season 1), Conchata Ferrell (Two and a Half Men), Stefania Lavie Owen (The Carrie Diaries) and Krista Stadler. The film was directed by Michael Dougherty, who previously helmed the horror indie film "Trick 'r Treat. He also wrote the 2005 horror sequel Urban Legends: Bloody Mary. He also knows to contribute in Bryan Singer's comic book adaptations of X2: X-Men United and Superman Returns. Dougherty referred Krampus as a story about people "who experience a darker side of divine intervention."

The movie appears to be a throwback to the dark comedy/satire of the 70s and 80s such as the Gremlins and the cult classic Black Christmas. It will be launched in theatres on December 4 this year.
