With the release of the second collaboration between Marvel and Netflix, "A.K.A. Jessica Jones" starring "Breaking Bad" alum Krysten Ritter, production for its sequel, "Luke Cage" on Netflix, is just gearing up ahead of its release next year - and they've just cast a new villain.
Although there's still no official schedule for the release of "Luke Cage" on Netflix (though it's estimated that it'll be available in the fall of 2016, as Netflix has revealed plans to release a Marvel show every six months and the second season of "Daredevil" should come after "Jessica Jones"), the show has made some serious advances in the past few days, as it's been revealed that Rosario Dawson will be reprising her Marvel Cinematic Universe role in the series and Oscar nominee Alfre Woodard could be joining as well.
In a recent press release from Marvel, the most recent "Luke Cage" Netflix casting news was revealed: Mahershala Ali, best known for playing Boggs in "The Hunger Games," will be officially joining the upcoming series.
This would mark Ali's debut in the MCU and his second series with Netflix, as he's also part of the cast of the production company's critically acclaimed political drama "House of Cards."
According to Fanbolt, Ali's role on "Luke Cage" in Netflix will be that of Cornell Stokes, also known as Cornell Cottonmouth, one of the most popular villains the superhero (played by Mike Colter on the series) has had to face in the comic books.
As Entertainment Weekly reports, Ali will be just one of the villains in "Luke Cage" on Netflix, as Theo Rossi was recently cast in the role of Shades and Woodard has been cast in the role of Minetta, which many think is the villain Black Mariah.
Ahead of getting a stand-alone "Luke Cage" Netflix show, the character will be making its first appearance on "A.K.A. Jessica Jones" this fall.
