Fans looking for clues about what might be Harrison Ford's role in the new "Star Wars" movie are just going to have to wait a little bit longer. But don't expect that to quiet down the fan clamor for new details about the famed stories now that they are in Disney's hands.
Ford recently gave an interview as part of his promotions for the upcoming movie about Jackie Robinson, the film "42." In the movie, Ford plays Brooklyn Dodgers president Branch Rickey.
Of course, the question of "Star Wars" came up. But Ford, 70, didn't answer it, according to the Associated Press, instead speaking kind words about the film's director J.J. Abrams. Ford called Abrams "fantastic" and also "an extraordinary guy," the AP reported. He gushed less when talking directly about the anticipated upcoming "Star Wars projects, saying only, "I don't feel anything at the moment yet."
Ultimately, Ford spilled little new information about the future of the "Star Wars" franchise, but that won't stop fans from speculating and chatting about what the future might hold for the storied film series.
Launched in the 1970s, the first three Star Wars movies revolutionized film making and merchandising thanks to the popularity of its storyline and its characters. Decades later, it's tough to find a group of kids dressed up for Halloween that doesn't include a Princess Leia or Darth Vader. But some of the magic came undone, at least for fans, when director George Lucas released a three-film prequel, and the overall reception from fans and film critics was that the latest round of three was vastly inferior to the prior releases.
When Lucas sold "Star Wars" to Disney, fans and film critics wondered if that could lead to another rebirth for the popular stories. Fans are hoping for the best. But, even if they don't like the final product, chances are that, like the first three prequels, whatever is released will turn a tidy profit for Disney.
