Vitamin C Helps Obese People Like Exercise, Study Says

For people who are overweight and obese, a new study shows that taking Vitamin C can be a good supplement for an effective and healthy lifestyle. Researchers concluded that taking the said vitamins can be as effective as exercise and workout.

Scientists coming from the University of Colorado at Boulder discovered that supplementing an obese person with Vitamin C can provide cardiovascular aides which include decrease constriction in the blood vessels.

The study also shows that the benefits that can be given by the vitamin C which is as effective as physical exercise. The increased activity of the protein endothelin (ET)-1 is one of the reason why blood vessels constrict, which then can cause vascular diseases.

Conventionally, ET-1 activity can only be reduced by doing exercise. However, the new study shows that Vitamin C can provide an option of preventing cardiovascular diseases without doing rigid exercises.

The study was conducted by analyzing the data obtained from 35 obese and overweight people. After that, fifteen of the obese people are treated through walking while the rest were medicated by taking Vitamin C with a dosage of 500 mg each day for three months.

The results show that taking Vitamin C each day can lessen the increased activity of ET-1, just like the walking treatment. Also, scientist have found that supplementing Vitamin C with daily exercise can help an obese person return his normal vascular health.

Caitlin Dow, the leader of the study said that the results are "particularly important" for those who are overweight. She also said that constant exercise and training are not always the preferred option especially for those people who struggle because of their weights.

However, Caitlin warn the future users that Vitamin C should not be considered as an exercise pill.

It can be noted that 500 mg of the vitamins is already considered as a high dose. A person who is over dosed with Vitamin C may feel unpleasant reactions such as nausea, diarrhea and abdominal cramps.
