Lemony Snicket Netflix: ‘Men In Black’ Director Barry Sonnenfeld Joins ‘Series Of Unfortunate Events’ Series With ‘True Blood’ Producer

Eleven years ago, fans of "A Series of Unfortunate Events" saw the only adaptation the popular book series has gotten since it came out, and the film, which starred huge names like Jim Carrey, Jude Law and even acting legend Meryl Streep, never got a sequel - but the new Lemony Snicket Netflix series is about to change it all.

In fact, the Lemony Snicket Netflix series won't be a sequel to the 2004 film but rather a reboot of the adaptations, as it will recount the entire series from the first book, as the film adapted the three first ones at the same time along a few references to further books.

In any case, according to Empire Online, the Lemony Snicket Netflix series has finally found itself a director, as the very secret project has now hired Barry Sonnenfeld, famous for directing films like the "Men in Black" movies and "Get Shorty," to direct the series.

The Lemony Snicket Netflix project isn't Sonnenfeld's first array into television, as he also worked in the short-lived series "Pushing Daisies" as well as "Notes from the Underbelly," the former of which is very similar in ambiance to "A Series of Unfortunate Events," so there's even more hope for fans that the new adaptation will be amazing!

Sonnenfeld was also involved in the 2004 film adaptation of the books.

AV Club reports that, besides Sonnenfeld, another person joining the behind-the-camera action in the Lemony Snicket Netflix series will be Mark Hudis, the former showrunner for the HBO vampire hit "True Blood," who will be executive producing the series alongside Sonnenfeld and also taking the job of showrunner.

According to Variety, very little is known about the upcoming Netflix project, as there's no published timetable nor actors, and it seems to be very early in pre-production.
