Kraft Singles Recall Expands: 335,000 Cheese Products Called Back, Packaging Film Causes Choking Hazard

Kraft Heinz Company is the fifth largest food and beverage in the world, and over the past few weeks, it has been drawing attention for all the wrong reasons, issuing different voluntary recalls after having trouble with different products, most recently extending their Kraft Singles recall.

The first Kraft Singles recall of 2015 was issued in the early days of August, as the company asked customers to halt consumption of the Kraft Singles and American and White American pasteurized cheese because of choking hazard found in the packaging, and the first wave of recalls spoke of 36,000 cases - but now the risk is thought to be in ten times more products.

According to NBC News, the Kraft Singles recall expanded because the company realized the choking hazard actually affected considerably more cases of the product that they'd previously thought, after the Pittsburg-based company received two more complaints regarding a choking hazard.

The Independent reports that the original recall happened after Kraft Heinz received 10 different consumer complaints about the packaging, with three consumers choking; seemingly, the problem is that the plastic film can remain attached to the cheese, prompting hazard.

Through ABC Chicago, The Associated Press reports that this new Kraft Singles recall covers three different sizes of Kraft Singles American and White American Cheese products (in 1, 3 and 4 pounds) that have "Best When Used By" dates that go from December 12 2015 to March 2 2016.

The Kraft Singles recall goes beyond U.S. mainland, as the products were also sold in the Caribbean, specifically in Anguilla, the Bahamas, Belize, Bermuda, Grand Cayman, Netherlands Antilles, Puerto Rico, St. Kitts and Nevis, St. Lucia and the British Virgin Islands, as well as in South Korea.

In any case, consumers who purchased the products are currently advised to return them to the same store where they originally bought them, and they'll be making themselves responsible for a full refund or exchange during the Kraft Singles recall.
