Alice Waters The Cali Cuisine Queen To Receive The National Humanities Medal

The famous chef dubbed as the godmother of California cuisine, Alice Waters, is about to receive the National Humanities Medal to be handed by President Barack Obama on September 10.

The announcement was made on Thursday according to the Los Angeles Times.

The award was earned by the famous Berkeley restaurateur for "celebrating the bond between the ethical and the edible," as per The National Endowment for the Humanities has stated. She is not only a chef but also a world-renown author for mastering a holistic approach to both eating and health that she is an active advocate of gardening, cooking and education.

Waters was so surprised about the news that she posted it on her Facebook page saying, "I am deeply honored to receive the National Humanities Medal from President Obama!" She continued with, "For me, this recognition from the NEH is about so much more than my own life's work, it is an acknowledgement that food is now considered part of the cultural conversation in this country."

Jhumpa Lahiri, architect Everett L. Fly and Evelyn Brooks Higginbotham who is a historian would also join her at the White House as they all would receive an award for their respective works and contribution to society and uplifting humanity.

Her Alma Matter Berkeley also acknowledged this milestone that she is about to embark on as they feature her on their website. She is a food activist and it all began when she was still studying in UC Berkeley. She was even published as Time Magazine's Top 100 last year. She also got the 2014 Innovators' Award from the Wall Street Journal and in 2008 she was inducted into the California Hall of Fame. She has come a long way and she is certainly making America proud.
