"Ocean Spray" Newest Business Ventures

Ocean Spray Cranberries, Inc., announced in January that  it acquired the processing business of Agricola Cran Chile Limitada (Cran Chile) based in Lanco, Región de los Ríos, Chile, Business Wire reported.

"Ocean Spray is proud to welcome Cran Chile employees into our family," said Randy Papadellis, President, and Chief Executive Officer of Ocean Spray.

According to Business Wire, the company's cranberries were featured in over a thousand products; in over 50 countries, throughout the world.

The business venture is predicted to increase the company's gross sales. According to Boston Updates, Ocean Spray posted fiscal 2012 gross sales of $2.2 billion.

Earlier this month, Ocean Spray signed a licensing agreement with Lyon Magnus, a California based company that creates and markets fruits, beverages, and chocolate products to food-service customers. The agreement states that Ocean Spray will administer Lyon Magnus with cranberry juice concentrate and use of the Ocean Spray brand. Lyon Magnus will assemble Ocean Spray branded juices, including cranberry, orange, apple, and lemonade, in the company's beverage machines and market them.

According to the company's official website, "three cranberry growers with a simple love of cranberries formed Ocean Spray in 1930. Led by lawyer and grower Marcus L. Urann, the three began coming with new and innovative products made from cranberries. Since then, the Ocean Spray cooperative has grown to more than 600 grower families all across North America."

Ocean Spray's first product was jellied cranberry sauce. It was then followed by its Original Spray Cranberry Juice Cocktail'; it entered store shelves in the early 1930's. In 1963, Cran-Apple became its first juice blend to enter stores. The success of the flavor influenced the company to eventually add other blended flavors to its line of juices. In 1993, Craisens were introduced onto grocery store shelves; they were sweetened dry cranberries. The product became popular and now they are seen in supermarkets throughout the world.

According to the Ocean Spray website, "Ocean Spray continues to pride ourselves on the tradition of innovation and resourcefulness established by our three founders over 80 years ago. And now, standing over 600 grower families strong, we're ready to carry on that tradition of success for generations to come."
