Prostate cancer is a disease which can be paralleled to the breast cancer in women. It is estimated that 233,000 men are affected by the disease annually and 30,000 men are also killed by the cancer every year. According to American Cancer Society, 1 out 7 men is diagnosed with prostate cancer in the U.S. Also the disease is considered the most common type of cancer in the country.

Jean J.E. Bonhomme, a member of MHN Boad of Directors and the National Black Men's Health Network founder stated that prostate cancer is a serious disease yet people are likely not well informed about it.

"Even though prostate cancer is the second leading cause of cancer death among men, men and women alike remain poorly informed about this important disease," Bonhomme said.

On another report by Dr. David Samadi, people can have a 90-95% percent assurance that their prostate cancer can be cured if the disease is detected early. He stated that PSA blood testing should be conducted in order to assess if a certain individual has a risk for the said cancer.
